Classic Chocolate Buttercream Cupcakes

Everyone likes chocolate...cupcakes. Everyone except me. But I made these anyway. Sometimes you don't figure things out about yourself until you're 33...or you bake chocolate cupcakes. I think I like the concept of chocolate cupcakes but the reality is somehow different. I whipped up my batter as usual (with the exception of my Grandma being present this time). I did start my music a little late---today's selection Pearl Jam's new album "Backspacer". I would hate to think that one of my all time favorite bands "jinxed" my cupcakes today, but...well, there just wasn't any oomph to them. The texture was right. They looked right. They smelled right. They just didn't taste right (to me). Could it be that I am cupcaked out? Could I have somehow forgotten to add the sugar? The butter? What was off with this recipe? Then it occurred to me...nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nothing was wrong...I just don't like chocolate cupcakes. Revelation. Call the press. Add to that butter cream frosting and it was a double thumbs down for me. On the bright side---PJ's new album is a definite, big, two thumbs up! And... I've got lots of chocolate cupcakes in the fridge if you want some!

Have to coordinate a once a week cupcake drop off/pick up, no? I can't believe the amount of cupcakes in my house is...stressing me out! Ha, ha!

Mililani Exploration: Kipapa Stream Trail

Learn something new everyday. Today, I learned there is a lovely neighborhood park in walking distance from my house...and a fabulous hiking trail just behind that!  Today we were finally able to go on a hike---without driving (well, sort of...more on that later). We simply geared up, walked out of our house and to a trail we'd never explored before. Adventure Saturday! Today's hike was 2.2 miles (one way) on a partially old paved road, winding around the back woods of Mililani, down to Kipapa Stream, back up to...Costco in Waipio. Say what? We truly had not planned on arriving on the oustskirts of a farm that is directly across from our local Costco. Turtle Bay "LOST" Trail

Lost in Paradise is how I would describe yesterday's beach/forest trail that led us past crabs climbing on rocks, mongoose dashing across the trail, horses around the stables, a lone Pillbox, and finally to an iconic Banyan Tree famous for recurring roles in the television series "Lost" and an appearance in "Pirates of the Caribbean". My mother-in-law was on island visiting for a week, so Marina, Sarah, and I took her on a hiking adventure...followed up by a thirst quenching Bacon Basil Bloody Mary.  I have previously explored trails with my mother-in-law.  We have trekked through mud and mosquitos at Manoa Falls, walked up a windy Makapu'u, huffed up Hau'ula Loop, strolled the North Shore's Waimea Falls and Kahuku Point.  So, this visit was no different.  We found ourselves hiking pals again for two separate trails this trip, the Turtle Bay "LOST" Trail being the best of the two. I'm in love with this new outfit of Zach's. Okay, outfit might be stretching it...onesie. I have to share.
