It's fun to say. Every time we said it on the way, we did a little shake.
Shakey's is Chuck E. Cheese without all the chaos...and they have BEER. I heard about
Shakey's because I have found yet another app on my iPhone that I am addicted to (it's a sad, sad life)---
YELP. It's an online community of freaks like me that take pictures of their food (instead of their friends and family) and comment and make
recommendations about it. I love it! Again, why didn't I
think of this?! Anyway, there are some other pizza lovers out there (it's not just me
Isom) and thus, how I found out about
Shakey's. It appears to be relatively new. If not, they have done an amazing job at keeping it clean.
Shakey's is in
Waipahu. Like all scientists, warriors, adventurers---part of the fun in the journey is the risk.
Shakey's is the ideal place to go out with other friends who have kids. The adults can sit at the tables enjoying a beer and the kids can play games in the back of the restaurant. It reminded me of when I was a kid. We used to eat at a place (not near as nice as Shakey's) in Atlanta called Franco's Pizza. They had a game room in the back. I would play Ms. Pac-man and Gallaga while waiting for my pizza. My parents could enjoy time alone with themselves or friends and I was happy to play games. I felt very grown up when I was given a dollar to spend freely. I give Shakey's extra points for their set up. The pizza however was not my favorite. I would still like to go back and give the thicker crust a try. I need something to absorb the sauce---which was my major issue with the pizza. It was too much and too sweet. It was as if they had used ketchup. Until you've eaten as much pizza as I have, you may not realize that sauce can make or break it. Cheese will always be good. Dough can be overlooked with the right toppings. But sauce, it's the thing that binds it all together. So, if there is sauce, it needs to be good. And if there isn't sauce, then that means the dough and the toppings are so amazing, the sauce wasn't necessary. So, go to
Shakey's for a fun night out with the family, not because you want the best pizza...although
Isom and Gabe saw absolutely nothing wrong with the pizza. Apparently we are polar opposites on all the important things we eat and drink----beer, coffee, and pizza.
