Mountain Magic Shave Ice

I've heard numerous people compliment this little sugar pusher on wheels. Mountain Magic Shave Ice in Waikele...sounds like something we would have experienced at Disneyland. Although, Waikele is like a Disneyland of sorts for me---Starbucks, Borders, trolley rides, shopping, malasadas, and shave ice...all in one complex. Yesterday, I watched Gavin for the day. While Gabe was at school I showed him how to play with Gabe's slinky, Star Wars lightsaber, and Transformers. When we picked Gabe up from school, we made a quick pit stop at Wal-mart and then to the park for an energy release...you can't keep two little boys cooped up! Half an hour into a game of "treasure hunt", we got rained out. We headed to Waikele to ride the trolley and read kid books at Borders. Half-way through the trolley ride, three pairs of eyes spied the same thing---SHAVE ICE! I have bought soda, chips, and I think cotton candy from this stand...oddly enough, not shave ice. Each G-man picked a flavor. The end result, a strawberry, pineapple sticky (but fun) mess. We even got mistaken for mainland tourists.

Mililani Exploration: Kipapa Stream Trail

Learn something new everyday. Today, I learned there is a lovely neighborhood park in walking distance from my house...and a fabulous hiking trail just behind that!  Today we were finally able to go on a hike---without driving (well, sort of...more on that later). We simply geared up, walked out of our house and to a trail we'd never explored before. Adventure Saturday! Today's hike was 2.2 miles (one way) on a partially old paved road, winding around the back woods of Mililani, down to Kipapa Stream, back up to...Costco in Waipio. Say what? We truly had not planned on arriving on the oustskirts of a farm that is directly across from our local Costco. Hiking truly lands you in the most unexpected places.   Along our route we encountered dirt bikers, a small band of pre-teen scooter riders, a couple of farm hands in a truck, a very intimidating junkyard dog, zero other hikers, and a friendly Starbucks Barista.  That's right, after our Saturday surprise hiking adventure, we f

I'm in love with this new outfit of Zach's. Okay, outfit might be stretching it...onesie. I have to share.
