Gabe Washington

Gabe is a well traveled seven year old. Last year he traveled to Japan, Washington, Maui, and the Big Island. This year he has been to Arizona, California, and Washington again. I'm excited to see where next year will bring him (since of course I get to travel to these places too!). Our six day jaunt to the Pacific Northwest was a whirlwind. Last minute decisions can sometimes pay off. When the initial invitation to join in the celebration for Isom's grandma turning 80 arrived in my Inbox, we thought, sounds fun, but there's just no way. A few persuasive phone conversations from Isom's mom, and next thing you know, Isom is online and has found a killer deal for the three of us to fly over for an extended weekend getaway. So, in lieu of seeing Justin Bieber in concert at The Blaisdell Arena, we ate good food, hung out with family, and reconnected with old friends...all in the span of less than a week. Our first day was spent at Trader Joe's, driving around Capitol Lake, hanging out at the mall I used to work at, and enjoying sandwiches from Meconi's (the best little Italian sandwich shop in Washington). Shop. Eat. Drive. Gabe enjoyed spending time with his cousins Wes and Ryan and making new friends with Caleb and Alexis. The weather was just on the border of being shivering cold, so the kids enjoyed freedom from the adults by playing outside, running with the dogs, throwing sticks in the pond, and general little boys in the country behavior...a great change of pace for our little suburbanite. We even got to visit an apple farm, where we enjoyed fresh, warm apple fritters (even I loved these...way better than the ones Isom and Gabe always get from Starbucks), apple donuts, and hot apple cider. Apple goodness. I was pretty happy to be able to check off almost all of my favorite Washington restaurants from my list. We ended our stay with an extended family and close friends dinner at El Sarape, where we wished Grandma Alice one more happy birthday and took turns wearing their birthday Sombrero...which in hind sight was probably not the cleanest of ideas...I'm just hoping it's too cold for lice in Washington. All in all, our little booger king, I mean Burger King, had a fun Washington adventure...and so did his parents.
